Technical Door Types

Swing, Sliding and Modified Shielded Doors

Door construction should be selected around the shielding objective, operational use and architectural requirements of the room.

EMI/RFI Shielded Sliding Doors

Shielded sliding doors are suitable for RF and EMP shielded enclosures where larger access openings or automated operation are required.

The opening sequence can include unlatching of the conductive contact system, outward movement of the door leaf and subsequent sideways movement.

Depending on the configuration, operation can be electrical, pneumatic or manual. Repeated opening and closing can also help clean the conductive contact surfaces.

Fingerstrip Swing Doors

Fingerstrip swing doors are widely used in prefabricated Faraday cages and Mu-Copper shielding systems.

Single or double fingerstrip configurations can be selected depending on the required shielding performance and door construction.

The achievable reduction depends on frequency, construction, contact condition, installation and measurement method.

Modified Wooden RF Shielded Doors

Where a lower shielding requirement is acceptable, an existing or new wooden door can sometimes be modified to improve RF shielding.

The door can be fitted with conductive gaskets around the top and sides and a conductive brush or threshold arrangement at the bottom.

Modified doors are commonly considered for hospitals, EEG rooms, EMG rooms and measurement environments where a lighter shielding solution may be sufficient.

Standard shielded panel doors can be supplied with steel or wooden door constructions and steel frames.
